The Sea to Sky highway (Highway 99) is currently undergoing massive improvements in preparation for the 2010 Olympics. The Ministry of Transportation is undertaking improvements to the highway between Horseshoe Bay and Whistler. Improvement are a $600 million upgrade which is scheduled for completion in 2009.
There are regular highway traffic delays. In off-peak periods, construction traffic delays are controlled so that travellers will be delayed a total of no more than 30 minutes on a trip between West Vancouver and Squamish, or between Squamish and Whistler.
Drivers are asked to use caution through work sites. Traffic fines are double in construction zones.
Visitors coming to Whistler should call Mountain FM Road Report 1-800-404-5156 or 1-800-668-1550 for the newest highway construction schedule and delays. |
